February 12, 2024:

            Newton County Sheriff Glenn Wheeler announced three promotions within his staff. Deputy Adam Sirmons and Deputy JD Harper were both promoted to the rank of Corporal in the Patrol Division.

            Wheeler said, "Both of these men have been a valuable part of the Newton County Sheriff's Office since I took office. In fact, Corporal Sirmons has been here since before I took over, so I got to work alongside him when I was a Deputy. Both bring a lot of experience and value to our team and deserve to be recognized for it."

            Jailer Caleb Carter was promoted to Jail Sergeant in the Detention Division, a position that oversees the Jailers and Dispatchers and ensures the security of the Jail and inmates.

            Wheeler said, "Sgt. Carter is a great fit for this position as he works well with the Jailers, Dispatchers and his Supervisors and is also great with the inmates, keeping things under control while still treating them fairly and respectfully. He will be great in that position."
