Jan 2019 Message from the Sheriff

Sheriff Glenn Wheeler

2019 is not only a new year, full of promise and hope, it is definitely an exciting new chapter in my life. I’m very excited to take office as your Newton County Sheriff and look forward to working in that capacity with my staff to serve the citizens and visitors of the county.

It is a great honor and a blessing to be able to serve as Sheriff in the county I grew up in and love. My ancestors settled in Newton County before the Civil War and have been a part of her fabric since then. My family tree even includes a great, great grandfather that served three terms as Sheriff of Newton County; he also served as County Assessor. I feel a deep connection to the hills and hollers of Newton County and still love spending time on the creeks and rivers and in the woods and fields of “God’s Country.”

I vow to do the best I can in my new position and to serve with honesty and integrity in a firm but fair manner. I know that the Office of the Sheriff is a huge responsibility with many burdens; but it also offers many rewards. I’m prepared to face the challenges of the office and am grateful to have the support of my family and the citizens of Newton County. I’ll let my values, experience, education, training and faith be the compass that guides me and will look to the ordinances of Newton County, the laws of the State of Arkansas and the Constitution of the United States of America as the written map that charts my way. Thank you for entrusting me with this office…
