Newton County Sheriff Keith Slape said that traffic enforcement is to be stepped up. Slape has asked the Arkansas State Police and the Arkansas Highway Police for additional help. Slape stated that due to the good weather that motorcyclists will be more abundent. " We had a dramatic increase in fatalities from 2008 to 2009, most have been related to motorcycles. We want to keep our highways safe for our citizens. You will see more patrol units in the county." Slape also stated that his office will be duing complient checkpoints around the county with emphasis on DWI.
