Sheriff Keith Slape said two hikers, who were reported missing Tuesday, Oct. 16, were found about 3:40 pm Wednesday, Oct. 17.
He said the two University of Arkansas students- 19 year old Nellie Hilner and 22 year old Carlyle Arguren- came to Newton County looking for waterfalls in the vicinity of the Kapark Cemetary near the Buffalo National River. Their friends called Fayetteville Police to report them missing and Fayetteville authorities notified Newton County. They were located about 3:40 pm. Slape said they were tired, hungry, thirsty and a little scratched up but unhurt. He said a North Arkansas Regional Medical Center crew checked them out. Slape said searchers included Newton County Search and Rescue, Newton County Sheriff's Officers, and officials with the US Forest Service and National Park Service.
