Car theft, Porn, and Shooting

Newton County Sheriff Keith Slape said that two juveniles from Jasper were arrested November 30th for carrying a prohibited weapon, unauthorized use of a vehicle, theft of property (firearm) theft of motor fuel, breaking or entering, criminal trespass and criminal use of a prohibited weapon. Slape said that the two youths were attempting to steal from a vehicle when the property owner caught them in the act and upon further investigation that the car they had had been reported missing. Further investigation reveled stolen property and weapons.

 

Slape said that deputies arrested Robert S. Pickett, 55, of Western Grove for indecent exposure and resisting arrest. Slape stated that Pickett was in a parking lot of a Western Grove business when deputies approached and observed Pickett viewing pornography and exposing himself. Pickett was arrested and taken to Boone County jail were Pickett posted bond. Incident occurred on December 3rd.

 

Sheriff Slape said that deputies investigated an apparent self inflicted shooting near Pelsor. Slape said that the sheriff's office received a call from a man that his wife had shot herself. The deputies found the female at residence suffering from a gunshot wound and she was transported to a Russelleville hospital. It is still under investigation. The incident occurred on December 1st. 

Slape said that the Newton County Search and Rescue along with the Buffalo National River Park Rangers were dispatched to the Hemmed In Hollow area on November 30th for two lost hikers. The 13 year old male and !9 year old female were separated from their father. After a four hour search both subjects were found and reunited with their family.
