Sex Offender Arrested/ Burglary Solved.

11/25/2014

Sheriff Keith Slape states that his Office was investigating a Residential Burglary in the South part of Newton County over this past weekend.  On Monday November 24, 2014 information was received that a person of interest in the burglary was living at the old Mockingbird Hill Restaurant.  Deputies went to the area and made contact with a white male identified as Jeffery Blaine Norton (47 of Tishomingo, Oklahoma) and while there they learned that Norton was a registered sex offender out of Oklahoma.  Norton had not registered as a sex offender with the Newton County Sheriff's Office and was arrested for Failing to Register as A Sex Offender.  He was later transported to the Newton County Jail.  While at the Jail, Investigator Ryan Watson interviewed Norton where he confessed to the burglary that had been reported.  Norton told Watson that all of the property was located at the old Mockingbird Hill Restaurant and another property that was adjacent to the old Restaurant.  A search warrant was then prepared and later executed where almost all of the property that was reported stolen has been recovered.  Deputies are still trying to locate additional property in this case and Norton is currently incarcerated at the Newton County Jail and has been charged with Failure to Comply with Registration and Reporting Requirements, Residential Burglary and Theft of Property with bond set at $25,000.00 cash only.  Sheriff Slape wants to thank the person(s) responsible for the information and that their information was vital in the recovery of the victim's property in this case.
